Today, the global plastic packaging market mainly comprises of packaging for food and beverages ­ accounting for nearly 70% of all polymers processed, while the rest 30% is required to fulfill the bulk packaging needs of products like chemicals & fertilizers, cosmetics and toiletries as well as medical/pharmaceutical products.

However, while the USA and Germany used to be the biggest markets for plastic packaging industry, now, they have almost reached the level of saturation and there has been a paradigm shift in the market dynamics. Today, focus is mainly on the emerging markets like East European nations, North America, S. Africa and other developing economies including India, which is estimated to have an impressive rate of cumulative growth ­ with only Eastern Europe accounting for over € 5 billion by the end of 2012.
